The Department of Pharmacy Practice has received
a grant for $176,000 from GlaxoSmithKline Inc. to establish an Asthma Pharmacotherapy
Network in Western New York. The goal of this grant will be to demonstrate the
role of the Pharmacist in the management of asthma through the documentation of
patient outcomes during chronic therapy.
The program has established an Advisory Board who will assist in the
implementation of this innovative program. Dr. Angela Wisniewski will be
chairing the Advisory Board. Other Advisory Board members include Dr.
Peter Brody, Ambulatory Care Resident; Karl Fiebelkorn, R.Ph., MBA from
the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences and the Community Health
Center - Buffalo; Dr. Timothy McDaniel from the School of Medicine and Biomedical
Sciences and the Erie County Medical Center; Dr. Gene Morse from the School of Pharmacy
and Pharmaceutical Sciences; Dr. Jamson Lwebuga-Mukasa from the School of Medicine and
Biomedical Sciences and Buffalo General Hospital; and Cori Wyman, R.Ph. from Eckerd Pharmacy.
This initiative will build on the already developed template for the
HIV Pharmacotherapy Network for chronic antiretroviral therapy management.
This initiative will also establish a post-doctoral pharmacy residency focused on
Asthma Pharmacotherapy and will work with the already established
Asthma Care Network led by Dr. Jamson Lwebuga-Mukasa.
